A year ago my life was simpler and by that I meant to say, easier. I can laze all day in my bedroom, soak in the summer heat all year round and never pay attention to the clock. Aaahh, how I yearn for Davao and my people. I miss waking up at the sound of Chubby barking uncontrollably at some random stranger passing by our gate. Although she annoys me most of the time, she never holds any grudge on her untamed masters.
I can never start my day without Kopiko coffee and where can I buy such luxury? No other place than my uncle Bobong’s Pet John Eatery/Store. Just thinking about Auntie Beth’s humba and bihon is enough to make me salivate right at this moment. And as if brunch at home is not enough, I usually go to Mommy’s and scavenge their fridge for dessert. Her children and apos love to present her with sweets and luckily for some (including me) she doesn’t like sweets. Teeheee!

Hooters are seldom used here and cars are not fond of smoking so I definitely miss the chaotic Davao transportation. I miss the vast array of colorful jeepneys waving boldly in every street. The sound from the driver’s stereo which ranges from budotsbudots to jazz, old OPMs to LSS worthy novelty songs, and if you’re lucky, a free (barely audible) news report from DZMM.
I miss Davao City streets; each holds a charm so unique that the sound of its name has a memory. I miss strolling around Bonifacio Street with Jayson while binging on my favorite manggang hilaw. I cannot wait to spend a productive evening in the busy streets of San Pedro scavenging on thrift stores, eating sinful street foods, and strolling around till our money’s all gone. When I come back home, I swear I’ll visit every resto in Torres Street and Lanang. And how can I forget Ilustre Street? It defines the whole of my college free time. Eating (again) each time we see a new foodstore opening up, sitting lazily on GS’s foodcourt, spending precious money on net cafes just so we can have something meaningful to do. And finally, my beloved Rizal Extension. It will always be my home wherever I may be.

And of course I miss my family and friends. I miss Jayson and our cutesy couple laaglaags. Although I abhor the sound of Chino and Shobe fighting every night, I have to admit I miss them. The piercing silence of this place is unbearable, almost chilly if not for the occasional chitchats of my dorm mates on our corridor. I can’t believe I’m saying this but I definitely miss mommy Feling and her constant nagging on her apos especially on Sam who seems to find amusement on torturing our pet fish and dogs. I miss my not so baby Keana and I cannot wait to hold my newly born pamangkins whom I haven’t met yet. I miss my friends and our Penongs then karaoke galore laags, the suddenly Samal trips, and abashake’skuripot reunions at home.
I miss so many things its crazy! Japan is beautiful in itself and everything is so organized but I miss the chaos and the noise and the spontaneity of life in Davao. It has been a year already and although I am enjoying my life and job here, I cannot wait to get out and come back home, to the people I most enjoy being with to the places I most hold dear.

The Most Awful Weekend to Date

I cannot stress how awful I am feeling right now. My Iphone's down and the damn thing won't even charge. I slept a mere 5 hours last night because I kept checking for a single sign of life. Unfortunately, its still as dead as a sycamore tree *don't know where that came from*. Sigh... the thought of going to work tomorrow without its company is almost unbearable. Can please please somebody help me!!!??

Anyway, things are awfully off right now. I don't know if its my phone or the fact that my period is coming up and I'm feeling a bit too emotional lately or because I'm missing home and people again or maybe because its a weekend and I'm bored and I don't know...

Im still hopeful ofcourse. I always am. And I should always be. Oh God please help!

How to Survive in a Foreign Country

I've been living here in Japan for 8 months now and surprisingly, I'm still alive! Yay! Not everything is breezy ofcourse, there are soulless monsters and crabby kababayans . So how can you survive in a foreign land? i have come up with some points which I'm sure will be a tremendous help to anyone planning on living abroad.

1. Be plain. we all know that people throw rocks at anyone that shines so if you want to dodge from these cruel inggeteras you need to just be obscure at about anything. I'm not saying be a manang on how you dress up or pretend to be dumb at work, you just have to be extra careful on your position. If you're a novice, act like one. I promise you, never tell a single soul about your accomplishments nor show how intellectual you are otherwise, they will forever stare at you with green, vicious eyes for that. I don't exactly know the reason why, but they seem to hate college graduates and nikkeijins.

2. Do not become so attached on people. I had a roommate whom I dearly call "Mommy" because she reminds me of my mama. Sadly, she left for an another opportunity. I was devastated. Now, I have the entire room for myself and fears that someday I might have to share this niche on someone that I might not like. It's fine to make friends and acquaint yourself with coworkers but never EVER care for them too much. Nobody stays in one place for a long time here so you might as well shield your heart from any kind of unnecessary hurt. This also applies with money, lend only to people you know for sure cannot escape without you noticing it. Meaning, if you're not living under the same roof, just forget about lending monetary help.

3. Stand strong. A lot of people will always have some mean things to say and if you have one weak heart, miseries will haunt you. I figured that practice will indeed make anything perfect. I was never the positive type, I am weak and easily hurt but if you feign courage and wisdom, people will actually believe it and so will you eventually.

4. Do not lose focus. What did you came here for? Whatever reason you have, maintain your eyes on that goal. Keep in mind that everything here is temporary, friends, job, home.... practically everything so be careful on putting security on people or things.

5. Have fun. You can be anything here because nobody really knows you. You can be single or 25 or happy if you say so. Not a lot of people will mind who you really are back home, they will only judge you on how you behave when you are at their sight. So take this opportunity to be someone you want to be.

There are still dozens of important things to keep in mind while working abroad but these pages will only bore you so I listed only 5. Besides, don't worry too much. Whatever happens here, nobody at home will know unless you post it on facebook!

snapshots in Japan

This is not a temple, its just some random house near our apartment

The first time I've seen snow. ever!

My cousins and pamangkins =)

A sunset view from my window

A common sight in Japan, Vending machines and bicycles

Obento for everybody. Time is definitely precious here that cooking can be such a job

Japanese takes segregation serioussslyy

A notice that's definitely noticeable

Japan is a beautiful country and we live in a City where everything is so accessible. I just wish that I can share this beauty with my love ones because I figured that no matter how wonderful the place you live in is or how many money you make, in the end you would want to share it to someone. I am still missing home, I'm getting homesick each day and I pray that i can have somebody here with me (yup, I'm referring to my boyfriend. hehehe) I know the first few months is the toughest when you work abroad so I'll just have to hold on still and keep my faith. Everything will work out right because I have my God beside me.

Im back!

I don't know how to start. I stopped blogging for a year now and frankly, i don't know why I'm here again. I guess i miss writing so much that i have to bring this blog back to life.

My last entry was on a Monday, November of 2010, so what happened to me after that?

Nothing much...

2011 has been quite a drag really. I stayed indoors almost most of the time because of my writing job * part of the reason why I stopped blogging.* I didn't want to go out and find a "real" job because I'm pretty determined to work in Japan.

The first quarter of 2011 was spent inside the classroom learning nihonggo and inside my sanctuary still writing. Of course Jayson would come and visit me now and then which * as cliche as it may seem* gives color to my ever boring life.

The remaining quarters was spent pretty much indoors because I quit my job and there are absolutely no proper job for a nurse like me.

The things that keep me amuse are my little cousins who constantly play with me while keeping up with my mood swings; Jayson who was always there to listen and keep me company while i drown myself in miseries; my laptop which was kind enough to be my magic mirror, showing me the world and my friends thru the power of the internet; my family of course, I can never be sane without them.

On October 2011, my mother went home to Davao to spend some time with her kids and family. We went to Manila for a vacation when my agency called telling me that my flight for Japan would be in 3 days, 3 F^&%ng DAYS!!! I can still remember every bit of detail that day. We woke up extra early to get to Cubao and do some serious shopping. I had the time of my life in the morning stuck in traffic and people and pollution. After lunch, i wasn't feeling very well so i decided to remain in Chowking when sir Gerald called to break the news. I didn't know what to do, i wanted to cry right away but my brain told me to hold on till we get to our hotel. I negotiated for a while asking if we can reschedule our flight next month but they refused. We ended the conversation and tears just came flowing and before i know it, i was sobbing uncontrollably that people were staring at me like I've gone insane. I texted my mama and they came to console me. I tried to make the best out of that vacation after the good??? news. We went home to Davao the day after.

My last 2 precious days in Davao was.... beyond description. Its like i have gone autopilot all of a sudden. I prepared all my stuff and bid my farewell to people really close to me. I didn't have time to cry let alone, party. I was just... getting my things ready.

My last night was almost unbearable. We had our photoshoot as a clan and then mananita to lola Feling, its singing a birthday song at the break of dawn. Jayson never left my side for the whole 2 days. He was like my cane, i can't keep up with all those things without him. Or he can be like my map, I would be lost if it weren't for him.

We woke up early for my flight and I didn't even cry at the airport. I wanted to but I can't and I don't want to make them feel sad or something like that just because I'm leaving. afterall, this is what we wanted. This is what I wanted and God knows how long I have been praying for this.

These are some pics during our Manila get-away and of course, my last few days in my hometown, Davao.

glee!

Okay so I know I'm an official dork just because I watched glee from season 1-2 but it always makes my day for the last week. I watched Bloody Monday since last week too and it never fails to give me nightmares. Keana keeps me busy with all her made up games which I'm not really sure how to play but I obliged just the same because I am that bored because there isn't much tasks to do.

I watched Harry potter and the deathly hollows yesterday with college friends and I cannot wait for the second part. I know it sounds lame, but doby's death kinda affected me so much that I cried. I have been crying so many times lately, I also cried watching glee which I forgot the reason why. I guess I am a cry baby after all.

And now, Im planning on buying a cellphone but I think I have to pay for my mom's bills so I have to suspend the event this December which is ok since I want to avail their promos.

I plan to got o Manila this January with my cousin but we still haven't bought tickets yet which is a bummer because it gets ridiculously expensive each time.

Anyway, I have to make some darn articles again. I cannot wait to get a proper job. article writing drains my brain and everything that is left in there.

Im still mad today which is the complete opposite of the title, and let's see what happens next.

plans are plans

You know what I don't like? its when plans don't go as planned! its not only frustrating, its inconvenient! It disrupts everything my brain has preconceived to happen and results to angst thus; this entry. I'm disappointed, actually I'm not only disappointed, I'm very disappointed and again, it makes me angry. So next time, try not to lift my spirits so high only to let it drown in salt water. I might die and if that happens, expect a visit every night. Don't worry. I know I'm exaggerating, what is an essay without drama? right? So don't make a fuss about this or I'll make another. okay? Goodbye!

T.T

We last saw each other 15 days ago and already I miss him terriblyyyyy…. It’s a horrible horrible and I mean horrible feeling to always feel this way everytime he’s away, I wish we can go back in time where we see each other everyday in school or even during review and not worry about missing each other. *sigh* Skyping and YMing don’t even help a bit uh-uh *shaking head* ….. we decided hearing each other’s voice makes it a lot worse especially when he calls me at night and we both agree how beautiful the moon is and just how many stars there are in the sky. * heaves another long sigh* I miss their place especially the “payag” just outside the house. It reminds me of the cottages in Samal.. ahhhhh.. Samal.. when art thou I see you again?

He’s supposed to come and visit me this Wednesday to celebrate our monthsarry together but the hospital called last week and informed him that they will start the training today. Imagine how devastating such good news like that can be. He promised he’ll come by during day offs and he said he will come for our anniversary no matter what. Weeeeeeee!!!

Anyway, I have to sleep early... our skyping and YMing must be done in the morning so goodnight!

scared to death

I have never been this scared of death before... we have just visited a relative of ours whose dad passed away while asleep. When life has so much to offer, when dreams come in endless queue, and when you want to do so much more one cant help but cringe to the idea of comfortably lying in a shiny coffin for people to see. I want to have a job, live recklessly elsewhere, get married and have kids someday and finally die in a ripe old age content with everything I have in life.

Sometimes there are just days when you want to hold dearly to the life you have and never wish it to be taken away, some days you just plead everything to end in a snap. But today, I pray for the former.

title??? i dont know..ummm.... love??

You love someone not because he gives the whole world at your command
..but because with him you learn that its intricacy is what makes it magnificent.

Not even because he reaches out the stars for you
… but because they seem brighter when you stare at them together.

You don’t love him because he is the epitome of perfection
… you’re just glad that you don’t have to be perfect to deserve this piece of sunshine.

Loving is not about smiling all day and walking in the clouds
… its about the unexpected burst of an array of feelings each time you’re together

I don’t even think that its because you have a promising future together
… but because he is the only guy whom you can have a lifetime conversation with.

It doesn’t matter if ignorant people brand you “mismatched”
…as long as you share something special and true, others will seize to talk about you

Loving should never be because of religion
… it has already forbidden so many things that we cannot allow anymore dictation

Intimacy is also not about the closeness of the body
…it’s talking with your eyes and how wonderful it is when your hands are interlocked

Its more than looking at his skin, his face, his nails, or the size of his shoes
… its scrutinizing his perceptions on life and finding out how great a person he is.

Being with someone is not because he makes you feel great all the time
…he must be your mirror who points out your mistakes and helps you learn from it.

Loving my dear is not because you have it all or because you give me everything,
… its about giving myself to you and still find myself full and bursting with love that I have to give it back to you again and again.

Sex and everything it is…not ( a repost becoz im that lazy to blog these days)

Thank you for even reading more than just the title and actually clicking to see what I have to say but as the title goes, it is all about sex and everything it is not. I have been wondering if the title would lure more people to read this article and I can only prove the premise when I make one, and since you have already proven me something you might as well read on… trust me, I have something to say. And you certainly will learn a thing.

I have come from a traditional Filipino family and getting hitched at a young age is a common taboo. Yes, even in college. And it didn’t help that my paternal side is Chinese and that we grew up attending Sunday service. The prospect of having a boyfriend spells marriage. Thus, I remain NBSP (no-boyfriend-since-birth). I am fairly content with my current status though because its different here in the Philippines, people usually respect you when you observe the laws set by the elders. And sex is sacred in this part of the world (or atleast to my family). There are a lot of families though who choose the revolutionary asphalt rather than the traditional bricks especially in the cities like here in Davao but there are some who still believe in the beauty of Maria Clara.

I concede that I am the least person who should be talking about sex basing from my background but since I like having big talks, I won’t let this one pass. College was far different from high-school, everything seems so new and everyone wants to have a taste of everything. Sex is naturally among them and the pressure of staying untouched during your last year is so overwhelming that students can do anything to get laid. Kissing has become less a challenge during spin-the-bottle game, comparing sexual experiences is “D Topic” of girls and boys alike, and since when is giving condoms a goodluck? The world maybe in Topsy-turvy but everybody seems to be enjoying every bit of the chaos. That ofcourse includes me, I have the pleasure of scrutinizing everybody while they kiss and pet each other right infront of me, I have come to appreciate the physiology of a human tongue more than ever and yeah I now know that withdrawal cannot kill anyone. Call me old-fashioned but I will never in my life kiss anyone I don’t love or atleast like. Duh! Why do you think people call having sex making love? Because you have to have sex with the person you love otherwise its not called love making at all. I honestly haven’t seen anyone yet doing it infront of me but the term seems to be getting more and more technical, like the process is OK as long as there is no penetration. Petting, kissing, hugging are all acceptable but the act of actually tearing a girl’s hymen is not. And that’s all that counts nowadays. Questions about morality and self-preservation shall never be acknowledged. So there.

I was able to witness a number of couples during their petting game and climax is usually guaranteed especially on the male species but frankly guys, your female counterpart don’t get as much excitement as you are obtaining. You don’t believe it guys? Yeah because females are good with acting and keeping secrets among our own kind. Trust me, girls just think that they might hurt you when you can’t see the word PLEASURE all over their faces. So next time that we initiate a conversation, put in mind that its one of our ways to distract you from your innate habit of constantly thinking about sex.. Like we know your mind would go “how are you?..1…2…3...4…5…6…sex” “yeah, im good too,1…2…3...4…5…6…sex”. Get the point? We know sex is one of man’s physical needs, thanks to Mr. Maslow who stated that we can’t reach our self-actualization without sex.. yeah, I think I’ll buy that when I’m 60, all powerful and all and still feel inadequate because of that lacking ingredient. But as of now, nah.. I’m too busy having fun to even think about that self-actualization thing.

I think I’m doing a sermon here rather than writing what’s on my mind. And I know many, if not all, find my idea too radical or even too ancient it can reach full extinction. But I don’t mind. I’m single, I very well know that I’m a prize-catch, whores think I’m worse than an ingrate bitch, most of the men I know respect and desires to be with me, and I am ending this crap. Sayonara! =)

my week long celebration

Sunday evening I received the greatest gift for the start of 2010. I passed the PNLE!!! and to brag some more.... all of my classmates and closest friends made it to the top 39% too! That way, no body has to worry about awkward greetings and give ambivalent smiles. And since this is the day all of us has been salivating since day one in college, I'm pretty sure everybody had their own twist to commemorate this rare event.

*MONDAY:

Shobe introduced me to the yummiest (and biggest!) burger I've ever tasted.
Tadah! BROTHER'S BURGER!!!! *SAY IT WITH LOUD BARITONE VOICE*

photo from here
I ordered Mcflurry to pair with our big brothers burger just around the corner because burgers are yummier with sundaes... believe me on this. Check out their store at Damosa Gateway at the back of Concentrix. If you are a food junkie Damosa is definitely the place you wanna go to. they house different foodstuffs that can tickle your palate ranging from Mcdo, Yellowcab, Swiss deli, Tsuru, and so much more you can only wish you live nearby.

In the evening, We visit Marian's father's wake at St. Peters chapel along with our classmates. It was bittersweet for her because she lost her father the night she learned about the result. We stayed there for a while because everybody has so much to tell to each other.

*TUESDAY:

I asked mama and mommy if Jayson can stay for the week. They obliged only if we sleep in different rooms. He chose the sala over our deserted( and probably haunted) guest-converted room. hehehe... He came just in time for merienda and since we will be having dinner at home ( death anniversary of Uncle Peter) we opted to eat light meal at greewich pizza hauz.

... just before going home we bumped on Hernani (his bestfriend in high school) and chatted for a while. He passed the Board too! We passed our time at People's park and talk about how great that everybody we know made it! And to help digest the food we walked to our house just in time for dinner at Mommy's house.

*WEDNESDAY:

We woke up early so we can exercise at people's park. We walked on the way there freezing because we don't have jackets on and jogged a couple of rounds before going home. Jayson and the Section A boys have a basketball match so I stayed at home the whole morning watching TV and surfing the net. After, we met up with his college friends, helped Ace do his grocery and ate at an eat all you can eating house. I forgot the name and I wouldn't be going back there anyway, so i guess its OK.

We bought some 8-in-1 dvd along Bonifacio street, some 3-in-1 coffee and junkfoods for our spontaneously planned movie marathon but he was so tired to finish even one movie so we called it a night and slept early for tomorrow.

*THURSDAY:

The boys were planning just yesterday that we go around Davao to catch up and wind up since Marion can use his car but the plan didn't pursue so we get to spend a couple of time together. We went to the mall and tried every game in the arcade. And since we don't have budget for lunch, we opted to eat at their food court. but the lechon kawali with hot sauce with macaroni salad as desert turned out to be quite a meal and we promised on going back at Jumbo some time. They certainly lived up to their name with all their jumbo rice and jumbo viand.
We went home after with a full stomach...

Merienda consists of Mcdo's large fries and their new flavored-sundaes.. i fell inlove immediately with the strawberry/choco filled desert!

Dinner we spent with his sister Elle and her bestfriend Obell. And since everybody is craving for pizza. BIG time! He ordered their overloaded on thin crust pizza paired with fries on peppered mayo toppings.

In late evening, I met up with my college friends. Alpha phi Gwapha mhi. Meloi is right, zabadani housed the cheapest tea and the most accommodating host there is. We spent the evening there with laughter and good news. It's always great catching up with the girls. We ended the evening at midnight. tired and full and with a new respect for tea, Islam, and body posture.

*FRIDAY:

We woke up early for the thanksgiving mass at San pedro church by Merge family. then ruled the streets with our motorcade after.

Jayson's last vacation day at home. We decided to use the time to get our precious diploma in school. while there, we saw our supervisor Sir Paolo, the other RLE supervisors, and our assistant dean Maam Isidor. They congratulated us for the 100% passing rate of our section. It feels good to be part of section A... :)

We visited Wotis since the attendants there are friends with Jayson and they always call him pastor. *giggles

After, We opted to go to Mang manok instead of Picobello. We wanted to eat rice since its 3 in the afternoon and we didnt eat lunch yet. It was worth it! we ordered 3-pieces fried chicken with unlimited rice and sizzling sisig paired with 1.5 liter coke. whew! my stomach was about to burst.

earlier that evening I went to Evangel Family Church to visit some old friends and watch a film show called "the blind side". it was quite a movie and I learned a thing about trust and family. After church is the Red shindig sponsored by MERGE. We had a blast at Victoriano's enjoying anything from food to free snacks and beverages.

... we went to Chyrel's place at Toril and spent a coupe of hours there. we decided we need to go home at 3 am and I dozed off to sleep until afternoon the next day.

*SATURDAY:
Our triple Celebration. Karla's 17th birthday, Van2x's 11th birthday, and my thanksgiving party.
I love the fact that everybody contributed to the success of the event. My mama and papa donated lechon and softdrinks, auntie Lea and uncle Nikki prepared all the food and pastries, Auntie Ner made deserts, Ate joy busied herself with the decors ( candles and tarpaulins), Auntie Beth and Uncle Bobong prepared their house and I give them the credit for the wonderful lights outside and for accommodating us all for the night.

I Love you guys!!!!♥♥♥

The Power of a Human Mind (repost from my thoughts.com)

Watching Discovery Channel helps me see trivial but essential stuffs beyond the fog of familiarity. Sometimes even the most petty of things that people so often overlook or just wouldn’t care noticing at all is the key element for a good life. Allow me to quantify.

Let’s face it, we have to make a decision almost every second. The way we walk, where to go, what to say, how we talk, to pick up the coin along the street or not. And even big decisions must be done in a snap, we have to decide whether or not to eat an extra-large burger, to submit in a hypnotic state, join an organization or a religious group and would you believe that sometimes people can decide whether or not to feel pain and bleed? And maybe witches have extra power because they believe they can learn and eventually obtain it. Hence, it is like saying that everything we are and everything we feel and do is because of the works of our brain.

The power of our brain is more than what any Einsteiner can comprehend. Even Socrates’ reason will be in vain explaining human behavior in relation on how our brain works. Ask every neurologist around for a simpler and more comprehensible explanation on the works of every neuron, chemical, and cells in our brain during decision-making and you will get vague, puzzle-like answers. Nobody can explain it.

Decisions are done with the effort of our brain, the chemicals secreted by our body, our attitude towards the subject, and our personality. It is all interrelated, meaning there is no concrete explanation to every human behavior because every behavior manifested by men is subjected to him and not to any other things around him. People who have done a crime knows what they are doing, even the most drunk is still conscious of the things around him. We cannot force anyone to do something against their own will, thus if the alibi of the crime is hypnosis, or drugs, or alcohol, or mental illness, I believe he/she should still be punished for such deviant acts.

The human brains works in ways we cannot fully understand. I have read about a cult in Iran where adult and children alike literally puncture themselves with ice picks, knives, and even swords and they claim that it creates no pain. Scientists have examined one member and indeed, the prostaglandin (a pain chemical) secretion is decreased during piercing when he meditates. Another is the art of knocking someone out without even touching the person. Thus called No Touch Knockout. I do not believe in this either but I cannot judge those people who have been knock out by this method. Why do some people feel so little pain? Why are some people knocked out without even touching? While some don’t? That’s because they believe in the concept. What we believe is sometimes more powerful than what we feel. Maybe that is why some hospitals in America are using the revolutionary mind healing to alleviate the suffering of the sick.

In conclusion, if you are in the brink of tears because of pain, remember that it is all in our mind. Even the most hurtful of circumstance can be avoided when we keep in mind this simple fact, Brain Has the Power to Drastically Change Your Emotion. Thus the saying mind over emotion. So next time you feel like eating that high-caloric meal, or crying over a stupid person, or feeling depressed of your body image, just remember That Its All In Your Mind. 

Puhleezzzz!!!! --.--

.... Remember my brother's boyfriend's name?

uhuh... him.

They call each other "baby!" !!!! BABY!!!!!

Darn it!.. It's either pure coincidence or my brother just really wanted to emulate my every action that he has to act well... *shrugs* like a girl, get a boyfriend with the same name as mine, and call each other the same way as we do *twitch*

He never fails to surprise me. I just wish he would never get as far as wearing my panties on. (wait! I get a feeling he already did! darn it!!!!!)
