section A essay

For my Classmates

It has been four semesters since we first met and we must concede that the journey together was not entirely sweet after all. We we’re reluctant, scared, challenged, thrilled or as Ma’am Linell has coined it “ballistic” by the idea of meeting an entirely new set of faces with infamous names we only heard of, we detest the thought of leaving our own little covens we have individually formed since day one in college, and we must give up the almost perfectly planned college lives to be with a bunch of strangers...

But everything we hesitated for, we have learned to love. Gradually we’re not strangers anymore, and we find ourselves actually thankful for the sudden change. Different lives unexpectedly knit together to form a bond of friendship that withstood differences in perceptions and similarities in cerebral capacity (char!). Seriously, this is a group with a collection of enigmatic people, strong opinions, and a loud mouth with a love for laughter. I believe culture shock would be an understatement for every soul enrolled in this legendary section. Diri lang ko ever nakadungog na maglitok ug yawa like it’s as easy as breathing and yet, would still look adorable in the end. Looking back, these half-naughty, half-intellectual pieces of baggage are the very people who influenced us most. Boys learned to play basketball kahit puro kaliwa ang mga paa, some learned the art of picking up the shuttle cock every after service during badminton tournament at Smash n’ Drop, and who has never tasted alcohol here? O nag-adto sa Torres to wind up o para ubanan ang friend in distress? O wala pa ever nakaaway ang classmate (in a diplomatic way kay magbati lang man gihapon)? Or teacher/CI ( na usually nagapower tripping lang sa mga gahi ug ulo)? Kinsa ang wala nag-absent because of extra-co, unfinished reports, or simply just because? Surely, dili na siya section A.

Aaahhh…. Section A, a term that would always ring a bell should we all hear it somewhere, like it’s already a part of us. A correlation to our name. “Si Fauzi? Section A man na.” “Cezz? F@#* bai, naa sa section A.”…
And who would ever forget to make comparison with us? “Aircon ang room karon sa Section A?” “Section A nasad ang nag-top?” “Ngano wala sila nagduty kahapon, kami lagi..?
Be proud and stand tall because everything the school needs are inside our classroom. ”Contestant sa quizbee? Sa Section A na lang pagkuha.” “Magpalista ka sa tuli? Adto lang sa room 404, o sa Clarion, naa didto ang Section A.” “mag-apil ka sa battle of the band? Naa karon ang Section A sa new AVR nagklase.” “Unsa man ni inung KIST, bastos na ang dating.” blah..blah..blah..
See what I mean? Greatness is exemplified by our mere presence yet, we are just ordinary students who knew how to ask help to our willing classmates. It’s a collective effort, and that made us great. We are so different in so many ways yet we are the same, working together feels like the most natural thing in the world to us because we belong to something more than a section in BSN, we are friends. Amidst victory and downfall (which is a lot more often), we celebrate life’s complexity and above all formed a friendship rugbied to the bones along the process.

As we leave the portals of our Alma Mater, let us not forget to communicate, text, e-mail, snail mail, or even long-distance call. We have made history in the small expanding buildings of Davao Doctors College and I personally believe that we can do so much more come we face the bigger, more challenging social jungle. We don’t have to prove anything to anyone though; we only have to prove something to ourselves. So let us do good and make each other proud. Au revior!

P.S. Char oy! Magkita gihapon ta sa review... ^_^
